Which is the prominent Austerity performed to Anantha Padmanabha Devaru?

Sri Anantha Padmanabha Vratha is prominent austerity performed to Anantha Padmanabha Devaru. Ananthana Habba is celebrated on Chaturdasi (14th day), Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada Masa.

How is it celebrated ?

On this day, Lord Maha Vishnu is worshipped in the form of Anantha. Devotees perform Shodasha Upachaara Pooja. Darbhe (Grass) are tied together representing Lord Anantha with seven hoods. Goddess Yamuna Devi is also worshipped with Anantha devaru on this day.

Another unique feature of Ananthana Habba is that it is performed on the 14th day for 14 years before concluding it with Udyapana. Maha Vishnu in the form of Anantha devaru is offered 14 varieties of flowers, fruits and dishes.

Anantha Padmanabha Vrata

On this day devotees worship Lord Anantha with a red coloured silk thread with 14 knots as Thora. After the completion of pooja this thora is tied to the shoulder or wrist of the Grihastha. The raksha will protect the Grihastha from all fatalities. It is retained till the next year and replaced during Anantha Padmanabha Vratha.

As legend says it, Lord Krishna is said to have narrated the significance o Sri Anantha Padmanabha Vratha to Dharmaraja. On the advice of supreme Lord Krishna, Dharmaraja had performed this Vratha during his exile in the forest.

Reciting Shri Vishnu Sahasra Nama, Purusha Sookta, Sri Vishnu Sooktha is considered as meritorious and bring desired results.
